Anyone familiar with this ensemble?

Seen them perform?

Rather odd combo...

Worth $95/ticket?

Not familiar with that particular line-up, but I can't imagine it being anything but great. $95 is friggin steep though. Few shows are worth that much to me. I wish Hussain would tour with McLaughlin again.

Spend the money on kind bud, stay home and listen to 10/15/83 again. Nothing those guys will play could even come near the same quadrant as the boys.
Well?... you are asking Deadheads after all

Saw them back in October. Really incredible show.

$95 though? That's a bit pricey. Think I paid about half that, and was second row center.

Again, really incredible show and of course the musicianship is top notch all around. If you are a huge fany of any/all the musicians then it's probably worth it, but if it's just a curiosity, you can just buy the album for $10 and you'll get the idea. They really didn't venture out and play anything besides the stuff from the album.

Béla Fleck and The Africa Project just played here in Fort Collins at The Aggie Theatre on Feb 4. Tix were $25 or $28, I can't remember. Béla is the best banjoist in the world. I had to google Zakir Hussain from my cave in Ft Collins to see his resume. I'm guessing maybe Indian music roots might be the next thing in Béla's rotation. This appears to be some new stuff. He plays everything from Bluegrass to Jazz on his banjo. Béla is an accomplished jazz player. I believe he actually took his first banjo lessons (bluegrass) from Tony Trischka, way back when.

Edgar Meyer is a well-known bassist who plays with Béla, Sam Bush, and Jerry Douglas at Telluride Bluegrass Festival (TBF) each year in June. These players are the All Stars there. They sit in with many bands during the festival. Then they perform together during the "main event," as the Telluride House Band (THB).

Their playing is absolutely phenominal. They have some cool videos at Planet Bluegrass. You can stream these 4 songs of THB 2008 flash videos at Planet Bluegrass. Firefox users with Downloader Helper can save these flv files. For anyone interested, I also have these flv files available for d/l on my website.

There are several videos of this trio on YouTube. Doesn't have the same high energy as mahavishnu orchestra, but zakir is a true master.

Bela and j douglas have a interesting album with a very famous Indian musician v mowat (?sp). Bela sounds very good with tablas and plays sitar-esq styled ragas.
